Dear Elaine,
My husband, myself and another couple have been invited to be house guest at a friends house. The stay will be for three nights. Are we expected to leave a tip for their cleaning lady. What would a appropriate house gift be?
Shirley V.
Dear Shirley,
No you are not expected to actually leave a tip for their cleaning lady. If she tends to your rooms or assist you all in anyway it would be nice to leave a simple note and small gift such as a gift card. Anywhere from $5 to $10 is sufficient. With regards to your host, be sure that after you visit you send a note of thanks and make mention of something you all did or shared during your stay. Its a good idea to present your gift when you arrive. Personalize your gift with something you know your hosts will enjoy. Gifts can range from things such as coffee, tea, wine, candy, specialty pasta, cheeses etc. Think about what pleases your friends and keep it simple yet thoughtful.
Hope this helps!
