The temptation is real to always check your phone with those text messages or those Instagram posts from the weekend before. Just to always keep in mind when you constantly check your phone, it tells the people you’re with that they’re not important. One way to avoid the temptation is to place your phone at your side or behind your back while speaking to others. Give them a little face time by looking directly at them as you speak. This way they will have your full attention. Afterwards you can look at your phone and text or type away!
Tune in TOMORROW! I'm sharing my etiquette advice on the Dr Oz show. Check your local listings for the correct channel and time.
One parent recently asked me if a hand written thank you note was still in order. She had been debating with her teen about whether a thank you note is now no longer in style. My answer was of course, yes it is still in order to write a thank-you note. It's just that people have difficulty writing one because they believe they must write something clever and long winded. This is not the case. Tje best thing to do is keep your message short and simple. This is most helpful when you have multiple notes to write at one time.
So here is the anotomy of a thank you note in 3 simple steps.
1. Say "Thank you".
2. Name the gift or the action (business referral, carpool your little one, etc).
3. Say something about the gift or action. Such as what tou will do with it, how it helped you, how it made you feel.
AND THAT'S IT!
Enjoying an afternoon or evening out? It's a good idea to practice the proper way to hold your glass before you go. Here are a few quick tips to help with the occasion. Always hold your wine or champagne glass by the stem. Holding it by the bowl can cause your beverage to change tempature.
Red wine is served at room temperature. White wine and champagne is served chilled. You want to keep it that way.
Here I'm enjoying a bit of chilled sparkling cider here at Swann HQ. Cheers!
I am soooooooo thrilled!!!! TODAY IS GRADUATION DAY. I have been in an intensive 12-week program to scale my business to the next level. Today I, along with my cohorts, will graduate with pride and joy from this AMAZING exclusive program.
It's been quite a journey for me. In the midst of all this TV, media, speaking and traveling "stuff", I am still a business owner. I have been working hard to have my business make good SENSE and make good MONEY. But I'm not doing this just to keep it all to myself. I want to scale and grow my business so that I can become a JOB CREATOR.
Because of this program, I now have a brand new product that will help others earn an ACTUAL salary by launching their own ETIQUETTE BUSINESS. I introduce to you the Swann School of Protocol! Learn more about it here.
Watch me brave the jungle on FOX's new reality competition series, Kicking and Screaming. This by far was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I left my supportive husband and traveled to Fiji to take on one of the biggest challenges of my life (so far). After 11 years of being a STALKER to TV and news producers, hundreds of appearances on talk & news shows, developing a NATIONALLY recognizable brand and sacrificing too many things to mention here, it FINALLY happened. Last year, out of the blue, I received a phone call (yes, an actual phone call) from producers asking me to participate in a new reality show for FOX. I said YES!
So, mark your calendars for March 9th at 9pm to see me in the FOX’s newest competition series Kicking and Screaming (Take a look at the clip below). Why that name? Because I was flown to Fiji, paired up with expert survivalist, left in the JUNGLE and we had to compete in a series of challenges to try to win $500,000! It was HARD and yes, I wanted to kick and scream at a lot of people. In my personal and professional life, I have WORKED very hard, remained COMMITTED and ENDURED some difficult challenges. Seems as though all of that got me prepared for this show (LOL).
Check back often because we're going to share information on a viewing party for the premier and virtual viewing parties you can have in your hometown. Tune in Thursday March 9 at 9pm for the premiere of the show. Cheer me on and see how the Etiquette Lady did in the jungle (I asked God to enlarge my territory but I didn’t expect it to stretch as far as Fiji)!
What a wonderful day! I was so happy to reveal all of the wonderful 2016 holiday gift ideas at my "Elaine's Faves" event. There was an awesome turnout of attendees and great fun was had by all. I'm so thankful to the businesses who supported this event. They showcased their products so the attendees could sip, shop, and see my picks for great local gift ideas. I'd like to thank Geri Rogers of Art Spa Gifts. She has stylish totes and gifts emblazoned with beautiful art work. Juanita Morris of Bold Look Head Wraps and Clothing showcased her exquisite head wraps for the chic everyday woman. Trini Baron was there to represent Farm Fresh to You an organic food delivery service that is a great gift to give an entire family. Jayme Lunnen from Jamberry brought along her chic nail wraps that are a sure fire hit to complete any fashionista's look. Lani Halladay's Mix Party sets are a winning combination for a great hostess gift to take to your holiday party.
I never like to send people home empty-handed so I made sure our swag bags contained useful goodies and a little something sweet. Guests took home their goodies in a reusable bag from KIND. In that bag were yummy snacks by KIND, filled with ingredients you can pronounce and see. A little something to use when you take a bathroom break is Poo~Pourri. Do the polite thing and spray before you go. How about a little brunch for the hair? Well, NORB provided everyone with a sample of their hair conditioner made from 100% organic food. So Rich Chocolates gave everyone a nice sweet treat with their artisan handmade chocolates.
Take a look at my Elaine's Faves list of holiday gift ideas. There's a little something for some of the favorite people on your list.
